Cock Ring Size Guide: How to Measure Accurately

Whether you're wearing one to help fight erectile dysfunction or just for pleasure, cock rings need to be a good fit if they're going to be effective. So, to make sure you buy a cock ring that's the perfect fit, you need to measure your penis.

In this guide, we'll walk you through exactly how to measure your penis to make sure you get to an accurate number. We'll also explain how you need slightly different measurements for different styles of rings.

When you finish reading, you'll have all the information you need to make sure you buy a ring that's exactly right for you.

Cock Ring Size Guide: At a Glance

  • Measure Girth: Use a non-stretchy string to measure the circumference of your erect penis for accurate sizing.
  • Calculate Size: Divide the girth measurement by 3.14 to determine the width if needed.
  • Cock and Ball Rings: Measure similarly but loop the string around the base of your shaft and under your scrotum.
  • Material Matters: Different materials (e.g., silicone vs. tungsten) and thickness affect the ring's tension and fit.
  • Consider Fit: Choose a slightly larger ring if your size isn't exact; rings can stretch but may cause discomfort if too tight.

Measuring your penis girth for cock ring sizing

Although there are a couple of other factors to consider afterward, the first and most important part of sizing rings is measuring the circumference of your penis - this is the measurement also known as the girth.

Here's what you'll need:

  • A piece of string or slim fabric ribbon (make sure it's not stretchy)
  • A marker or pen
  • A ruler, tape measure, or tailor tape
  • A calculator or calculator app
  • A penis pump (if required)

Note:
You might be tempted to shorten this process by wrapping a soft tape measure or tailor tape directly around your penis and noting the measurement. Our recommendation is that you don't - tape measures are often too wide and a little awkward to get a truly accurate measurement.

Step 1: Take off your pants and underwear

Completely remove your pants and underwear. If you take a shortcut and tuck your waistband under your balls, you'll likely shift your balls, scrotum, and any body fat around a little - which could lead to an incorrect measurement.

Step 2: Get hard

Since most penis rings are designed to fit around an erect penis, it makes sense to make sure you're hard before you measure.

If this requires the use of a penis pump - use your normal pumping routine (without the addition of a ring) to get hard. If getting hard just requires your imagination or a little time online - now's the time.

Step 3: Wrap the string around

Now, take the piece of string or fabric, and wrap it snugly around the base of your erect penis. Aim to get a snug fit from the string without compressing the skin of your penis.

Grip the part of the string that the other end reaches - then, without moving your grip, make a mark on the string with your pen or marker.

Step 4: Measure

Now, releasing the tension and your grip on the string, lay it on a flat surface and pull it out against your ruler or tape measure so it's perfectly flat and straight against the edge. Making sure the end is at the 0 mark on the ruler, note the number against which your pen-marked part of the string sits.

That's it - you now have the circumference - or 'girth' - of your penis.

Now that you have the circumference measurement, you can look at most manufacturers' information and pick out the ring that most closely corresponds to your size.

The trouble is that not all manufacturers use circumference sizing.

Ring measurements are also sometimes listed as 'width' - a measurement that's significantly smaller than circumference.

Don't panic though - this is where the calculator comes in. You can easily find the width of your penis by dividing the circumference by 3.14.

Here's an example with a penis circumference of 6 inches:

6 inches ÷ 3.14 = 1.9 inches (width)

How to measure for a cock and ball ring

So, we've now covered how to measure for a cock ring (i.e., a ring that fits just around the base of your shaft) - so what happens if you're shopping for a cock and ball ring?

This kind of ring is designed to loop over the top of the base of your shaft, but rather than going under the base of your shaft, it loops behind your balls instead.

The process is virtually identical to measuring for a standard ring - so follow the guide above - but when you get to step 3, loop the string snugly around the top of your penis and under your scrotum.

Choosing the correct size

Although having your measurement makes it easier to choose the right that's right for you, you might not find the perfect size - after all, everyone's a little different.

Some manufacturers will offer a sizing guide that explains how to find the ideal size product based on your unique measurement.

However, if they don't, you'll need to find the best fit possible. If there's no exact match, it's usually a good idea to go for the ring that's fractionally larger than you need, rather than a smaller size that turns out to be too tight. Remember, cock rings generally stretch - so one that's a touch bigger will still stretch to fit around you - constraining the blood flow as it does. If you go for one that's smaller than needed, you may feel pain as it squeezes you too tightly.

What influences the tension of a cock ring?

You might be surprised to learn that two cock rings of exactly the same size could produce different tension levels. Let's take a look at why that's sometimes the case.

FEATURES

NOTES

Diameter

The unstretched diameter of the ring will play a big part in how much tension it offers when stretched.

For instance, both 1.6-inch and 1.8-inch rings will go around a 5.5-inch diameter penis - but because the smaller ring is stretching more, it will have an increased amount of tension.

Material

Material plays a bit part in working out how much tension a cock ring will offer. Some materials, such as silicone and TPE, are very stretchy.

On the other hand, a tungsten ring of the same size will offer no stretch at all - so will fit very firmly, offering much greater tension.

Thickness

Typically, the thicker a ring is, the more tension it will offer. This usually only applies to stretchy rings - so, for example, a thicker silicone ring will be a little harder to stretch than a slimmer ring.

As such, you should aim for a ring that's a good balance of tension and comfort.

Manufacturer

Different manufacturers make their rings to different quality standards, which may mean a ring is slightly smaller or larger than the listed size.

While this often isn't noticeable by itself, other factors (such as material and thickness) can make slight size differences more noticeable.

Temperature

Different materials act differently under certain temperature conditions.

This usually won't be noticeable if the temperature changes by a few degrees - but it can be more noticeable in more hot or cold scenarios - such as temperature play or in the tub.

Features

Different shapes and features on a ring can impact how stretchy it is.

For example, a ring with a vibrating area designed to stimulate you or a partner might be less stretchy, where this part of the ring is thicker or formed differently - therefore altering the tension it offers.

How to Find the Perfect Cock Ring for Your Shape and Size

Cock Ring Size Guide: A Summary

Whether you're looking to fight erectile dysfunction or you just want a harder erection, if you're looking for the perfect cock ring, size matters. The good news is that accurately measuring your penis or penis and balls can be done in less than a minute and doesn't need anything more than a piece of string, a pen, and a ruler.

By looping the string around the area you want your ring to fit - then measuring between the mark you make and the end of the string, you'll get a very accurate figure that you can then use to find a ring that's the right circumference or width.

Remember though, there's a little more to finding the right ring than just the size.

Think too about the material you're opting for, the manufacturer, any temperature differences the ring might be exposed to when you wear it, and your personal preference when it comes to added features - as these can all affect the amount of tension you get from your ring.
